Tips for Change "What is Self-Image"

tim thomas, coach
Hi Webbers!

How fantastic is today! I am standing up and sucking air. Have I told you this is my favorite week of the year. I gain another year however I am better than I was before. I am not even the same person. A majority of my cells have changed. What a ride. I have up and down. This year has been mainly an up year. YAY !! My business is going well and you are helping make that happen! Thank you!

This weeks Tips for Change and our topic until exhausted is Self Image. I can tell you before I started my company. When I was a young adult I had a horrible self image of myself. It took a long time to change it and lots of mistakes to get on the right track. My story isn't important here. The important thing is. The shift is possible. You can change it takes some work and a coach and you can be in your new world. Your life by your design.

Answering the Time-Old Question – What is Self Image?

Self image has been scrutinized by psychologists and philosophers alike for centuries. Even though

there are many arguments as to what self image is exactly, people will agree that self image has much to do with how a person feels about him/herself. Some would say that self image means how a person views himself in the world. What a person does everyday - their job, how they treat others, how attractive they are to others - hinges on their self image. Some people have positive perceptions of themselves, while others do not. It is believed that people who have positive perceptions of themselves have been told they are good, or useful. Those who are constantly told they aren’t good or useful, have negative perceptions of themselves.

This leads to another definition of self image which is how others view a person. If others do not enjoy a person’s company, the person may develop a poor self image. If other people do not find a person attractive, the person may suffer from poor self image. People often put too much emphasis on what others think about them. It is important to remember that one’s self image will change throughout their lifetime. They begin to rely less on what others think about them as they mature and find hobbies and social groups that accept them. Their perception changes as they become more educated. Learning a skill or learning more about the world can have a positive impact on a person’s self esteem.

Sometimes, though, a person needs counseling in order to develop a positive self image. This is very common among women and teenagers. Fashion magazines show women that are perfect when in reality they are not. Some women feel they cannot live up to these expectations and become depressed. Teenagers feel the same way when they compare themselves to others in their peer group. Unrealistic comparisons like these are dangerous. They can lead to eating disorders, disruptive behavior, and eventually drug or alcohol abuse. Talking with a therapist can sometimes make a person realize that they do not have to compare themselves to others. Their self image improves and they can lead happy lives.

Self image needs to be nurtured. Everyone feels less than perfect sometimes. But most people recover and go on with their lives. But some people cannot let go of these bad feelings as easily. Their self image is so unrealistic, they make themselves sick and need professional help and advice in order to gain the strength needed to get past those bad feelings.

Tips for Change "Moving on"

Hey Webbers,

It is another week I am wiped out already and it is only Monday. I had a construction meeting this morning. I replaced a light fixture in the evening. When is there to many wires in the box when you can't fit any more. Not a good sign.

Any ways moving on. As I push forward in developing my coaching and personal development company. I have always thought there has to be an easier way. Lets face our lives don't come with instructions. Well in coaching and personal development we definitely help get a handle on it if you are committed to do the work. There is no better way to do that than through helping others discover their greatness and reach their personal goals.

Right now as I push forward I have enjoyed every single moment with my current clients and look forward to all of the great things they will achieve. I am reaching out to all of you for some assistance. Outside of my current list of clients. I decided to offer 20 sample sessions to potential clients.

If you feel that you or someone you know, could benefit from a session please contact me.

Sessions can be done by phone, skype or video chat, If close enough in person at a location of your choosing. Coffee shops work great.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Tips for Change "Self Improvement"

tim thomas, life coach
Hi Webbers,

How goes it? Our next topic will be about self improvement. How do you work on your self. This is a topic near and dear to my heart.

I can tell you I have made good and bad choices throughout my life. Luckily none have been so severe that they have restricted me.

When I coach others I like to make reference to a triangle. My start in life was like being at the bottom. There was no balance. I bounced from one extreme to the other. I had very few good role models and those that I did have I was too scared to share how screwed up my home life was. I struggled for years and years. I knew there had to be a better way. My mom who I love to death. Was willing to do whatever it took to put me in college. I couldn't let her do that. My choice to deal with it was to enter the service. I got closer to the top of the triangle so I bounced from side to side less and became more balanced. Some of it was good some was bad.

Again I had role models in there however there was no way I was sharing how screwed up I was or thought I was. I went on for another 15 years before I really got a handle on who I was. I was even closer to the apex of the triangle. Call it thirty five and then it wasn't until I was forty and a father that everything solidified. I know shift from left to right much less and am very close to the Apex. I worked on self improvement and knew what I needed to do. Yet I had no experience to base the knowledge on.

Today I raise my daughter to have choices and help fill in the gaps. I leave a lot of decisions to her and as hard as they are I let her make bad decisions instead of telling her no. The more she understands cause and effect. I believe the better off she is. Now don't get me wrong I won't let her injure or harm herself. She may get hurt but she will be alright. What do you do with your children?

I go by a saying now. I ask 3 questions. Is it good for me? Is it good for others? Is it good for the community? Then I go by the acronym think - T = Is it True? H = is it Helpful? I = is it Inspiring? N = is it necessary?  K = Is it Kind?

Tips for Change "Time Management: A Group Project Rather Than a Solo Act"

Hi Webbers!

It is Monday and Labor Day! I tell you what a fast moving weekend. I got to spend and exciting day up in Wolfeboro NH. With a good friend and his family. We had a great time. The wife and I enjoyed a movie on Sunday night as well.

The bad I went to start my truck on Friday it was dead dead dead. New battery today and so far so good. I really hate working on cars and that is bad coming from someone who has nothing but mechanics in his family.

As we were shopping yesterday I picked up a book on mindfulness. Actually a magazine.called mindful. I thought it was pretty interesting that practicing mindfulness has come mainstream. Pretty interesting read. The magazine was well put together.

Anyways onto this weeks Tips for Change. Do you have projects that you work on that could use some streamlining?

Time Management: A Group Project Rather Than a Solo Act

Managing time takes cooperation from everyone on your team, and in your family, for it to work. If everyone isn’t on board, you’ll end up with problems and urgent last-minute tasks that you want and need to avoid.

* Create a Shared Calendar – Whether it’s for your team members for your business or for your family, create a shared calendar to use so that nothing gets forgotten; whether it’s seeing a movie Friday night or getting some work done on Tuesday for the project due on Thursday. Shared calendars prevent issues from arising and anything being forgotten.

* Appoint Team Leaders – This works for business and family. If someone is in charge of a particular project, it will help you avoid having to put out lots of little fires. The team leaders can deal with the small fires and only pass things on to you if they become more serious.

* Set Meaningful Deadlines – Don’t just give a deadline for the main project; assign smaller deadlines and checkpoints throughout the work on any main project. The main deliverable has many different tasks that need to be done and if you and the team leaders are ensuring that the smaller checkpoints are being done on time to a high standard, there will be no reason not to meet the ultimate deadline.

* Use a Project Management System – There are many ways to manage projects, from cloud-based systems like Basecamp.com to using a series of spreadsheets, documents and files that are shared with everyone. It’s up to you how you want it to work, but do seriously consider using a system that was made for organizing projects.

* Craft a Shared Vision – Nothing gets a team more creative than a shared idea or vision to guide them through each project. If everyone is on the same page and understands the ideas and values that you’re trying to represent in each finished project, it will help move things forward by creating limits. Contrary to popular belief, limits do not always stifle creativity.

* Systematize Everything – If you have created a system for everything from landing new leads, to converting leads, to a contract, to working on the actual project, you’ll find out that feels as if you have a lot more time on your hands. You can carry this further by systematizing your family life too. The more often you do things in the same way, the faster you’ll get.

* Delegate Responsibility – Appoint other people to be in charge of different aspects of the business. Virtual assistants enjoy being in charge of other team members, as do children at home. Give someone dominion over something, with clear expectations of what the deliverable should be, and people will surprise you.

* Allow Everyone to Contribute Ideas – If everyone gets to openly contribute to ideas, without any concern of poor reactions, you’ll get more ideas. Not all ideas are going to be good ideas, but the more ideas that are generated, the more likely you’ll find truly profitable ideas to develop further. Set aside time once a month or so just to throw ideas around.

By allowing everyone to have a say about the time they spend, and what on, it’ll make it easier to manage time as a team for your business or as a family at home. Time management takes everyone on the team to work together. Teams can consist of those you hire, outsource to, or family members.
